- Aug 12 2026 — COMEX–LME spread and inventory check

- Outcome
- Section 232 tariff uncertainty blew the COMEX–LME spread past $800/t against a normal of roughly $50/t, pulling 1.2 million tonnes into US warehouses until about 64% of globally visible stocks sat under COMEX control. LME stocks fell for a 42nd straight day to 204,975t with nearly half earmarked for withdrawal; cash-to-three-month hit $434/t, a five-year high, with cash copper near a record $14,500/t. A copper-specific driver, and price at a record because the record inventory was in the wrong warehouse. Regraded Oct 18 2026, confirmed to partial: the invalidation named "the COMEX–LME spread collapsing," and it did after the checkpoint (SMM put October COMEX at a $46.94/t discount to LME three-month on Sep 29). The substantive claim held as mine supply replaced the tariff as the driver; read strictly, the literal clause fired.

Provenance
Every call on the Record is hashed with SHA-256 over its canonical JSON, and the hashes are sealed into a Merkle root anchored on the Base blockchain. A grade or correction written after an anchor appears in the regrade log with its date and is sealed at the next anchor. The anchor page explains how to verify a call against the chain, and the full Record lists every call with the strict and directional tallies.
